Fearless Leader

Mark Garland, Student Minister

Born in the heartland of Eastern Missouri, this unlikely student leader experienced
a wide variety of trials which has prepared him to do what God has lead him to do.  Mark grew up in a solid Christian home in sub-urban America.  He spent several years in Missouri, but his high school years were spent across the “Big River” in Illinois.  High school was a very trying experience for him, in part, because of the stand he took against the various temptations.  Accepted, however, in his youth group, he learned much about the ministry from spending large amounts of time at church with his youth minister.

Mark went to college at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri.  There he earned a B.A. in Religious Education with an emphasis in youth ministry.  Before earning his degree in religious education, Mark was studying in the field of computer science.  God had very different plans and Mark was redirected into the ministry after some very tough situations.  Things fell into place quickly after changing majors and he graduated in the summer of 1991.

God was not finished molding and an illness forced Mark to leave seminary and to find work in another profession for some time.  During the years of recuperation, Mark struggled to understand why he was directed away from the ministry he loved. In the summer of 2004, Mark and his family moved from Missouri to Colorado.  God continued to direct in Mark’s life and in mid 2006, Mark accepted the position as the student minister at Longs Peak Baptist Church.  Mark loves having the opportunity to share & minister to students and has a passion to reach them for Christ.  If you are in the area and want to come visit, you are always welcome!  The banner of Mark’s bio is that God really is the provider!!
